In 2022 my family and I spent three months touring the Balkans with another family of four. These images represent the first time my family became a subject of photographic study. It was a period of intense, quality time before the start of the school years, where the very domestic rhythm of young childrens’ lives played out in the most wild and magical of places. Our days, as ever, were dictated by the rising sun, meals, nap times – but at the same time they were tinged with the unique freedom of travel. So too were these photographs, taken largely in the calm of waking and the sweet lull of dusk with their unique qualities of light. The results are deeply personal images imbued with a quiet confidence only possible in a subject that trusts you implicitly. A sacred converging of home comforts and awe-inspiring landscapes.
