Nick Ballón

Biography

I’m Nick Ballón, a photographer and filmmaker working across portraiture, documentary and design. Based in the UK, I have travelled the world capturing the everyday and the uncanny, sparking curiosity and challenging perspectives in the hope of deepening our understanding of the world around us. My images and films are marked by an intentional ambiguity that aims to provide a space for reflection; I’ve found this approach defies categorisation, allowing for the close study and capture of a range of subjects. Working both independently and with long-term clients and industry collaborators, my subjects include roving journeys across wild landscapes, stories of politics and community, the materials and mechanics of design, and more. In recent years, my personal work has centred on my Anglo-Bolivian heritage and its continued role in shaping who I am today, with a focus on ideas of loss, identity, place and belonging. I am also a co-founder of Picnic, a not-for-profit photography space in East Sussex that offers exhibition platforms, mentoring and networking for young people and emerging talent in our local photographic community. In all forms, my work is shaped by obsessive observation, curiosity, and a desire to elevate the seemingly everyday to the extraordinary.
