To mark the beginning of an ongoing collaboration between industrial designer Bertjan Pot and Maharam, I paid him a visit at his studio in Rotterdam: a former gymnasium bordered on two sides by a canal and surrounded by trees. The space brims with lights, woven masks, textiles and furniture that typify his material experimentation. Later, we visited the beach to fly kites; a pastime that speaks to Pot’s interest in functional design using simple materials and techniques.
