The Whimsical and Witty Home of Toymaker Bob Race for World of Interiors

Knick-Knacks, Fingle Fangles, Playthings... Their maker? Toymaker and Artist Bob Race.

It was great to see my photographs of Bob and his wife Thalia's house in a recent World of Interiors feature. Their house, a museum of automata, moving parts and toys from years spent perfecting his craft. Above his head is a handmade sign that reads "Robert Race, deviser and manufacturer of bagatelles, baubles, bibelots, fingle-fangles, gewgaws, gimcracks, kickshaws, knick-knacks, playthings, puppets, toys, trifles, whigmaleeries & whim-whams, by Royal Appointment Toyman in ordinary to their Serene Majesties the 3 Princes of Serendip."

To the right of him, commanding the attention of the room, sits 'The Janian Museum' made with salvage found on Chesil Beach in Dorset.

As well as that over a week in early December, Jorge Dieguéz and I, under our new collaborative project Divided by One shot a film about Bob and his spectacular automata. Eyes peeled for that soon!
